The world-famous Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli race track is situated on the Romagna Riviera in Misano Adriatico, approximately four kilometres from Cattolica.
Originally called the Santa Monica Autodrome, in 2006 the name was changed to Misano World Circuit as a result of a series of important events. In 2011 the track was renamed in memory of the late Marco Simoncelli, a champion motorcycle racer from the area.
Each year the MWC hosts globally important events such as Superbike, the Ferrari Challenge, the WDW, the Week End Trucker, and of course MotoGP.
Out of all the various events organised each year, a special mention should also go to the bike rallies. The most important of these is World Ducati Week (WDW), which is the world’s largest gathering of Ducati owners.
It takes place every two years and Misano Adriatico has played host to the event twice now.
Hotel Negresco is situated approximately 4 km from the racing track and only 300 metres from Largo Danimarca, where you can buy tickets during Moto GP and catch buses to the track. No other transport goes to the track during this event.
The recently opened Riviera Horses Resort is a large, modern equestrian village situated in San Giovanni in Marignano just 3 Km from the Cattolica motorway exit. It is one of the biggest equestrian villages in Italy and is perfectly equipped to host international and national horse-riding competitions for all categories. The centre has six fields (three for competitions, two for training and one for work) and all the necessary facilities for hosting competitive events.
The wellbeing of horses is of particular importance and they are provided with new boxes and taken care of by qualified staff. Riders with competing horses have access to 500 boxes, a round pen, a ring, stables, a landing pad for helicopters, plus plenty of parking for campers and trailers. Stables are elegant and sophisticated and have pine wood arched covers. Hotel Negresco is about 4.5 km from Riviera Horses.
Tourists visiting Cattolica and the Romagna Riviera have an increasingly large choice of things to do. In response to demand from the tourist market, at the start of the 2000s Riviera Golf Resort was opened for all lovers of golf.
The Resort is an ultra-modern 18-hole golf course (currently being extended to include a further 9 holes) set in the stunning hills of San Giovanni in Marignano and it is the perfect outdoor place to relax, have fun and enjoy a game of golf.
The center is the ideal place to combine fun, sporting passion for golf and pure relaxation in contact with nature.
There is also a path that runs around the golf course from Cattolica and along past Misano Adriatico, in the heart of the beautiful Conca Wildlife Reserve.
Guests have access to the Riviera Beauty spa, plus there is an exclusive restaurant and a luxury hotel with 32 suites.
The Riviera Golf Resort is just a few minutes’ drive from the Cattolica motorway toll booth and approximately 5 km from Hotel Negresco.
Nordic Walking is currently one of the fastest growing sports in the world.
It started out as off-season training for cross-country skiers but it took off in just a few years and in 1997 the sports federations of various countries recognised it for all intents and purposes as a true sporting activity with its own specific technique and specific equipment.
The poles used for Nordic walking are indeed similar to those used for cross-country skiing, but have special features (length, grip type, and manufacturing material) which make them very different to ski poles or poles used for hiking.
The technique involves coordinating arm and leg movements (similar to brisk walking), moving in rhythm and applying force to the poles. This all involves using the muscles in the chest, shoulders and abs; these muscles are not put to use in traditional walking and therefore Nordic walking consequently has greater physical benefits.
The sport is very popular in the north of Europe (where it originates from) and in central Europe.
It is slowly gaining popularity in Italy and there are currently several tens of thousands of Nordic walkers.
In the last few years, the sport has gained a foothold on the Romagna coast, where groups of walkers get together for long walks on the beaches or along one of the many natural paths of the beautiful hinterland.
In September 2012, one of the routes of the International Nordic WalkingFestival, organised by the Italian School of Nordic Walking, passed through the Conca Wildlife Oasis in Misano Adriatico, on the border with Cattolica.
Cattolica also has akite surfing school.
Situated right on the beach and next to the Aquarium, the Amateur Sports Association CATTOLICAKITE organises kitesurfing courses from March to November. There is a storage room for equipment, changing rooms, showers and toilets and the school also provides life-saving assistance.
The centre is run by the Conca Riders with qualified instructors for both beginner and advanced courses.
All equipment is provided for courses (kite, board, wetsuit, harness, jacket, and helmet) and assistance is given both on land and water, meaning that you can learn quickly and safely.
